DRUMSLIVE SOUND

How do you keep backing tracks from making a live band feel rigid?

Backing tracks can add useful sounds live, but they can also make the band feel locked to a grid in a bad way. I am interested in setups that keep things reliable without draining the performance.

How do you use tracks well? Click only to the drummer, minimal stems, clear count-ins, emergency plans, or leaving some parts live even if they are less perfect?

Keep tracks minimal. If the band can carry the song without them, the tracks become support rather than a cage.
